Location: Allendale, Michigan
Focusing on creating a walk-able, live-able neighborhood, the project eschews a traditional streetscape for a central green, creating a place that’s perfect for Frisbee and touch football and not so perfect for cars, trucks or SUVs. The lush ‘front yard’ supports amenities like outdoor patios and grills while providing ample green space that helps manage storm water runoff.
The Gold LEED 608-bed residential complex consists of three, three-story buildings. Designed to create small neighborhood communities, each wing has its own connection zones that open to the larger world.
Common / social / study spaces range from window-walled ‘fishbowls’ overlooking the common green to inviting central ‘family rooms’ with fireplaces and full service kitchens for pot luck parties, mini-lectures and late night discussions. The apartment-style residences offer full-service kitchens, living rooms and private bedrooms.
